Where are you from Originally?
I was actually born in Australia and grew up in a town called Noosa in QLD. It can be a little fickle but we have some amazing waves when they turn on. I’ve always like it a lot because we get a good range of conditions with everything from all time point breaks to fun beachies and great kitesurfing conditions.
Tell us about your first memory with the ocean?
As far as I know I pretty much grew up in the water. I don’t remember it, but apparently my dad used to surf with me on the front of his board when from I was a couple years old. I remember him finally taking me out surfing myself the first time when I was about 5. He pushed me into a couple waves and from then on I was hooked. I basically grew up with my life revolving around surfing and kitesurfing and it's still the same now. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Can you describe the feeling when you won your first World Kiteboarding Championship?
It was an amazing feeling. I had some pretty good success with National competitions as I was growing but winning for the first time on the world stage was a dream come true. It ended up coming down the final in the last event of the year which made it all the more exciting too. To finally see all the time and hard work over the years pay off was great.
What is the longest period you’ve been away from the ocean?
Haha probably when I’ve injured myself. I ended up breaking my ankle almost 2 years ago and that put me out for a solid 3 months as well as a couple months slowly getting back into it. It’s definitely pretty hard to deal with but you find ways to stay sane and get through it. It definitely makes you a lot hungrier to come back. Unfortunately, I’m actually out of the water again right now from a dislocated shoulder so hopefully it's not too long before I can get back in the ocean doing what I love.
If you could go on a trip anywhere around the world tomorrow, where would you go and who would you go with?
That’s a tough one but I’d have to put Tahiti on the top of that list and head over with my girlfriend again. It’s gotta be one of the most magical places in the world. Last year I spent 2 weeks there and it was one of the best trips of my life. Beautiful place, amazing waves, good wind and some of the friendliest, coolest local people you’ll ever meet!
What are you looking forward to most in 2016?
Getting through this injury and getting back on some trips. I had an amazing 2015 and a really good start to this year with the wave of the winter nomination so I’m really looking forward to getting back into some good solid waves and doing some trips again. I’ve got a few ideas of places I want to try kite and I’m looking forward to trying some new things.
Tell us about that Wave at Backdoor!?
I’ve had some big barrels before but that one was by far the biggest and heaviest barrel I’ve ever paddled into and I’m incredibly stoked to be in the top 10 for the wave of the winter competition right now. I’ve spent a little bit of time out at pipe and backdoor but I’ve never had a wave anywhere as good as that there. It’s usually pretty hard to deal with the crowd so when I saw this thing coming and no one swinging for it I knew I had to give it a try. I had a pretty small board so I was super lucky to actually get into it. I’m still in disbelief that I somehow knifed the drop and snuck out the end so it’s a wave I’m going to remember for a very long time to come.
Trip you’ve been on
Tahiti or Fiji

Means of transportation

Where do you live now?
Somewhere between Australia and Hawaii
Is it RAD?
It's epic. I have dual citizenship so I can spend as long as I want in the US. I try to spend most of the winter in Hawaii and then head back home to Noosa once the swells start slowing down in Hawaii. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
