Lyon, tell us a little about you.
What do you do?
I'm an action sports enthusiast at heart but a photographer by love and profession. You could say I do a lot.
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Malibu but have bounced around living in Venice, Santa Monica, and Hawaii. I am currently living back in my hometown of Malibu.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
It really depends on the day, but coffee is a necessity. If the waves are good then I'll either be surfing or shooting water photos. Pretty much anything that excites me!
If you had it your way, right now, where would you be, with whom and what would you be doing?
Hmm, I think I would want to be driving through Western Australia in a van with my girlfriend, surfing up and down the coast and photographing whatever I found that intrigued me.
Describe art in four words or less:
Beautiful. Difficult. Powerful. Independent.
Favorite non-musical sound:
Most inspirational person in your life:
I'd have to say my mother has been and will always be my most inspirational person in my life. No one will ever come close to what she's overcome in my eyes.
My first tattoo was a memorial script for my moms little brother who was the closest person in my life. He bought me my first skateboard, surfboard, and dirtbike.
I would have to say my mom tat.
Finishing up my left arm sleeve.
Is there one photo that you have taken that stands out to you amongst the rest?
I honestly can't pinpoint one photo as my favorite. I go through phases of photos that I fall in love with throughout time.
Who do you consider your oldest friend and describe him/her in four words or less:
Tucker Hopkins. We've been best friends since 4th grade. Just one of the guys that I consider a brother now more than a friend. And will be till we die.
Favorite travel story
Again I can't pinpoint a single story. I've been fortunate enough to have traveled a lot in my young life. But one highlight would have to be traveling through Australia alone earlier this year.
What do you find to be your most natural outlet for expression?
Either surfing or being wide open in the middle of the desert on my dirtbike. Those two have to be the most mind freeing things that I do in life. The both really keep me grounded and help give me a different outlook on life.
What is the one thing you are most passionate about that makes you feel liberated?
I'd have to say just life. I'm passionate about living and experiencing new things.
Most valuable thing you have learned in life:
That life is short and very precious so make the most of what you have.
Would you rather live deep in the mountains or deep in the city?
Probably in the mountains. I like seclusion and being able to do my own thing for the most part.
What are you most proud of?
Life has thrown me some pretty crazy curveballs in my 23 years and I'm very proud of how I've overcome all the adversity.
Why do you take photos?
Because I love capturing my vision and not yours.
